Mulberry Court Residence, Eltham
Safety is not a design feature. It is the starting point.
The deck at Mulberry Court had been slowly losing the battle against time and weather. By the time our clients called us, the structural elements were compromised beyond repair. There was no cosmetic fix available. The only honest answer was to take it down and start again.
So we did.
Ironbark was chosen for the structural and handrail posts, 125mm x 125mm, because in Eltham the environment is not forgiving and the materials have to earn their place. Merbau underfoot. Ironbark shiplap cladding across the key surfaces, introducing warmth and texture in a way that feels native to the bushland setting rather than imposed on it.
Nothing about this rebuild was decorative for the sake of it. Every material choice came back to the same standard. Will this hold up? Will it still feel right in twenty years? Will our clients be able to walk out here without a second thought about whether it is safe?
The answer now is yes to all three.
A deck rebuild in Eltham done properly looks exactly like this. Grounded, resolved and built to outlast the house it belongs to.
